Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Adhav Arjuna on Friday claimed a major breakthrough in the Tamil Nadu government formation process, stating that the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has extended its support to the Vijay-led alliance.
Adhav Arjuna displayed a letter reportedly issued by VCK supporting TVK’s bid to form the next government in Tamil Nadu. The development comes at a crucial stage as TVK continues efforts to cross the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.
TVK emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections by securing 108 seats, falling short of the required majority mark of 118 seats by just 10 members.
Earlier, the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the Indian National Congress officially extended support to TVK. While VCK had not formally announced its final position earlier, Adhav Arjuna’s statement has now intensified political discussions across the state.
If Vijay is sworn in as Chief Minister, it would mark a historic political shift in Tamil Nadu, as for the first time since 1967, a leader outside the traditional DMK and AIADMK alliances would head the state government.
Sources indicate that Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is expected to attend the proposed swearing-in ceremony scheduled at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
The latest developments have triggered massive reactions among TVK cadres and political observers, with social media platforms witnessing intense discussions over Tamil Nadu’s changing political landscape.
